Transhumance
A downloadable game
"Cow Herders are driving their cattle from the high mountain pastures to the green plains. This journey is called the Transhumance and it crosses a place known as The Valley.
The Underking, is the ancient spirit of The Valley and it commands all beasts and elements alike. The cowbells have disturbed its slumber and, in anger, it lured the herd away from its herders."
Transhumance is a simple one-page roleplaying-game experience. The players will interpret herders, trying to recover their cattle scattered in various dangerous places around the Valley. The referee will play the Underking, tasked with making their life harder and preventing them from daring enter the Valley ever again.
Core elements of this game are:
- A better herder means a worse cow, and vice versa. Each herder is associated to his best cow. The more advantages your herder has, the more disadvantages your cow will have in return (and the Underking will be sure to exploit them!)
- Tactile elements, meaning pens and pieces of paper are required for the game to work at its fullest.
- Simple and fast rules, the game is meant to be taken and immediately played. A small collection of random table and examples is provided to help both players and referee setting up the stage.
- Focused experience, the game is designed to play as a single adventure, not a full roleplaying game.
Influences
Transhumance has been inspired by John Harper’s Lasers&Feelings, Dreaming dragonslayer's Middle-Earth Adventures v3.0 and Fandabi Dozi’s Highlander Serie. Product of the 24h game design jam on Rooster Games discord channel.
Notes
Transhumance has seen no playtests, as such it's probable the rules will need some small tweaks and balances.
Feel free to try it and possibly give me a feedback: any comment or idea is welcome and will help provide a better experience for me and other potential players.
